Stepping out of uniform didn’t mean stepping away from service. When you’re driven by helping people, there is always another mission to take on.
Right out of high school, I went to Air Force basic training, marking the start of a 20-year career in the Air Force. The military pushed me to grow quickly and taught me how to function under pressure. From that point on, I was always learning, goal setting, and understanding how to work effectively in teams. Over time, I stepped into leadership roles where I was responsible for developing others. That became the most rewarding part of my military career. Leading people, mentoring them, and seeing teams accomplish difficult goals was what kept me invested year after year.
I served multiple combat tours, earned various medals for service and combat action, and later moved into recruiting. In that role, I led production teams, earned leadership and sales awards, and guided people through the process of joining the Air Force. What I enjoyed most was seeing someone go through the full process, from being a new recruit to graduating basic training and returning as an Airman. Being part of that transformation made the work feel really meaningful.

As I approached retirement, I started planning for what would come next. A big part of my life had always involved construction. My dad owned his own businesses, so I grew up on job sites and learned how to recognize quality work early on. That experience led me to start a contracting company in 2021. There was a real need for dependable contractors in the area, and instead of waiting for someone else to step up, I started a home building business myself.
Real estate was a natural next step, but that doesn’t mean it was easy. Leaving behind the structure and systems of military life in 2023 and jumping into real estate was certainly a big leap. Many new agents struggle in their first year, and without a plan, I could have too. What made the difference was the support system I had in place and the fact that much of the work mirrored my military career.

I already had a strong network in Warrensburg. I was born and raised in Missouri and started and ended my Air Force career at Whiteman Air Force Base, so this community felt like home. I also had a solid understanding of the needs of military families and veterans, because I had lived that life. I know how stressful a PCS move can be, how to work with VA loans, and what it means to buy or sell under pressure.
The brokerage I joined has been around since 1958, and the mentorship I received from the owners was huge. They are deeply connected to the community, and they helped me avoid the early pitfalls that many new agents face. Combined with my military background, recruiting experience, and construction knowledge, I had the tools I needed to find my footing and grow quickly.
This has been such a positive new chapter in my life, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve people in this new way. Just like in military recruiting, in real estate, I am walking people through a major life decision. I pride myself on offering the education, support, and honest guidance needed to make confident decisions.

As a family man, with a total of five kids between my girlfriend, Kylie, and me, we stay very involved with our kids’ activities and prioritize family time. We take yearly beach trips and spend a lot of time outdoors. I enjoy hunting, fishing, golfing, and anything adventurous. I earned my pilot’s license a couple of years ago, and I’m always up for something new and exciting, like skydiving or race car driving. Continuing my love for service, I also stay active in the community through Big Brothers Big Sisters, the VFW, and the American Legion.
After a 20-year military career, real estate is a new way for me to serve others, solve problems, and help people move into the next chapter of their lives with confidence. My process starts with a full consultation to understand your goals, timeline, and preferences. From there, I keep communication clear and consistent. I am responsive, detail-oriented, and focused on making the process smooth and stress-free.
I take pride in how I treat my clients, and that approach has led to strong, lasting relationships. It has also earned me recognition as a Five-Star Zillow Premier Agent, reflecting the real experiences of the people I’ve helped. I always encourage clients to read my reviews—the results speak for themselves.
I know this is a life-changing decision. Having bought, sold, and relocated many times during my military career, I understand how overwhelming the process can feel. I do everything I can to fill in the gaps and make sure nothing gets missed. My goal is to be your go-to resource from beginning to end—and even after closing. With a strong network in Warrensburg, I connect clients to trusted local professionals so they never have to worry about finding reliable help after the transaction is done. I am here to be a lifelong resource you can count on.
Sincerely,
Cody Newsom
